On the kitchen floor

I’m very pleased that for the first time in three days, I won’t be taking up residence on my kitchen floor.

This may not seem like a big deal to you.

Or maybe you find it unthinkable that someone would spend time spread-eagle on their kitchen floor.

Maybe I should explain….

A character in my WIP ends up on a kitchen floor and I was trying to get a glimpse of things from her perspective (even though SHE didn’t have a dog licking her face and jumping on her chest thinking it was the best game EVER!).  So, there I was against the tile…for three days… because I couldn’t get the scene right.

What kinds of odd things do YOU do for your work?

  1. Awesome. I love your dedication!

Well, I spent the afternoon at a women’s prison for research. And I now have pen pal at a maximum security men’s prison who gives me all kinds interesting info on life behind bars.

Don’t we love our jobs? I think that yes, we do.

LOL – Brilliant. Love the image of you on the kitchen floor, the dog “helping” with a good old face licking.

I pantomime stuff all the time to get a physical sense of how to describe something accurately and creatively. Also, I’m always muttering to myself anymore. Probably not good walking through the halls at work.

  3. I’m envious that your kitchen floor is clean enough to lay on [and I’ve seen it, it is]. I would just have to imagine what it would be like to lay on my kitchen floor. Or mop it which I don’t feel like doing.

    You are dedicated!

I have done a lot of, saying my dialogue line out loud, to see how it sounds. I have also admittedly done some mirror time where I make faces and then describe what my face is doing 🙂

Jennifer H — quick, go commit a crime and go to jail — THAT would be dedication!

Joann — I’ve knocked myself over while acting out fight scenes…yeah, I’m that klutzy

Jennifer C – you can come lie on my floor any time you’d like

Melanie — I’ve done the mirror thing too….or worse, I’ll ask my DH to do something, lol
